An awesome mix We love our wednesday afternoon cooking lesson. Although I do not cook or bake at home, (this is Mr. Harding's area of expertise), I do love to engage my students in functional learning experiences to help them generalize mastered skills. We work on math through using measurements and counting. We also use reading skills to read the recipe and follow directions. We have also incorporated reading comprehension and writing to summarize our experience. Finally, we have also been working on social skills by sharing our recipes with other classrooms. My students have also learned how to take surveys and collect data. We go to other classrooms and ask their opinions about the food we use when cooking. We have surveyed other students in the school about what their favorite snack mix ingredient is, do they like marshmallows in their hot chocolate, do they prefer chocolate or vanilla ice cream, and many others.
Some of my cooking forms/handouts are adapted from Cook to Learn by Traci Bender.
Some of my recipes found in my Cooking with the Force 2015 link were taken from this fantastic cookbook.
